COVID-19 Isolation vs. Stay-at-home Mom Life

I’ve been enjoying the memes during this pandemic. The world is in turmoil, and we’re coping. Society makes light of things to deal with the stress. Frankly, and it may be wrong to say but, I’ve enjoyed not being alone.

So many people are talking about how it feels to always be home, to always be with their kids, to worry about germs, to find things to do without leaving the house. This has been my life for years.

Why I Didn’t Do Anything About My Postpartum Depression

***This is my experience with PPD and my own opinions. I wrote this to get my feelings out. To maybe let someone else know they aren’t the only one feeling this way. To maybe help someone understand their loved one going through PPD.***

(I wrote this a few years ago and finally have the courage to post it. I have since started therapy and changed antidepressants and doses several times. My depression is an ongoing battle.)

I have been coping with postpartum depression for over three years now. I started treating it after my son turned two and added a medication at the end of my second pregnancy. Going on antidepressants was one of the best decisions of my life, but it took me a long time to get to that point. I still have hard days. Sometimes I find myself staring at the wall while my toddler plays and my baby sleeps in my arms, and I’m numb. I have flashbacks to what it was like. I can’t believe I lived like that for so long. There really is no preparing for motherhood. For one, you have no idea what it is like to be entirely responsible for an actual human child’s well being until you are. For another, every child, day, and situation is so different. But, let me give you a little idea of what might have prepared me for motherhood. Or, you know, scared me off.

Recovering from the C-Section I’d Dreaded

I don’t know a lot of people who plan on having a c-section. For most people, it isn’t ideal. For me, the thought of a c-section was terrifying.

My first child was born vaginally. I got to the hospital at 9.5 cm, got an epidural, and had a baby two hours later. I had no reason to expect a c-section the second time. I felt like I should research c-section recovery but didn’t. I don’t known that I really would have wanted to know what to expect, but if you’ve had a c-section, know you’ll be getting one, or just want to be prepared, here are some tips. I’m a Bucket List Mom

…but that doesn’t mean our summer has been extravagant.

I’ve read some things lately about how bucket lists are for things you want to do before you die and not for the summer. I’ve read hate about how bucket lists make us feel like we need to do all of these extravagant things to live up to some ideal. I’ll admit that these articles made me feel like crap for a few minutes. But you know what? I am a bucket list mom, and that is perfect for me and my family.

Mistakes From My First Year of Motherhood

This post contains affiliate links. I get commissions for purchases made through these links.

I’ve made a lot of mistakes as a mother. I’m pretty sure we all do. The thing is, there is no exact right way. What works for one person won’t work for another. My “mistakes” have taught me a lot and have gotten me to where I am as a mother. If I went back and did it all again, I’d probably make a lot of the same mistakes because I was doing what worked until it didn’t or what I thought was best.

However, there are some lessons to be learned from my mistakes…

My All-Time Favorite Amazon Orders

I love ordering things online! It’s twice the excitement as shopping in a store because I get to enjoy picking something out and then getting it in the mail!

On the other hand, I am picky about what I’m willing to pay shipping for, so I only order things I’m fairly sure I’ll like. I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite Amazon buys from the last two years or so.

Motherhood is…

Ah, motherhood. The only thing I was ever sure about wanting to do in my life. The hardest thing I’ve ever done. I love my kids. I have lots of little moments I love. I also have lots of moments where I struggle. Kids have made so many things harder while teaching me so much.

I want to be real here without being negative. Motherhood is a mix of rough times and beautiful moments. As I’ve reflected on what motherhood is for me, I’ve created this list from my own experiences. Enjoy!
